FAQ

How big are Cocker Spaniels?
On average, they tend to be 37-40cm tall (to the shoulder) and a healthy Cocker Spaniel would usually weigh between 12- 17 kilos

What grooming requirements do Cocker Spaniels have/ how much hair do they shed?
Cocker Spaniels do need daily brushing (especially after walks) their coats easily matt which if left can cause problems. Brushing should be firm; you should start from the skin and work down to avoid any knotting. Bathing should also be carried out regularly; shampooing should be followed by a good quality dog conditioner. Trimming will also be required on a regular basis, this can be tricky so professional Dog Grooming may be preferred.

How long do Cocker Spaniels typically live?
Between 11 – 12 years

Are Cocker Spaniels susceptible to any particular illnesses or diseases?
Cocker Spaniels can be prone to eye problems; they can sometimes suffer from ‘night Blindness’ which can lead to total blindness. Beagles are also known from suffering from ‘Hip Dysplasia’ which is more commonly found to be associated with bigger dogs; it involves an abnormal development of the Hip Joint. Also check ears regularly, as Cocker Spaniels have relatively large ears they can be prone to infection if not kept clean.
